I am Jori Garnder, owner & sleep coach for Crib Coach. Born and raised in beautiful Southern Alberta where planted my roots down as I raise my 1.5 year old son with the love of my life (whom I met in an airport!). I struggled to write this “about me” as i wasn’t sure what I should share and what is important for you to know. The answer to that is WHY? Why do I do what I do? Well, before becoming pregnant with our son I struggled with a chronic illness for just over 2 years. Awful doesn’t begin to describe those two years. Doctors, tests, surgeries, all of which provided temporary relief with the only “cure” to be a full hysterectomy (no thanks!). The last specialist I saw knew we were wanting to start a family, so he gave me the go ahead to get pregnant and hope for the best. After a fairly short trial we became pregnant and over the course of my pregnancy my symptoms started to disappear. Hello miracle! Fast forward to our sweet son being 2 months old and my first official big check up where the doctors all were amazed and had no explanation (aka miracle!). I was cured! The only evidence I had ever struggled with a chronic illness was a handful of steel pieces hanging out inside my body. Amazing! My whole world changed (as one obviously does when having a child) and my previous mind set of returning to my office once my maternity leave was up was no longer an option. I have felt from day one a very strong calling that I am where I am suppose to be, at home raising our son day in and day out. When babe turned 4 months old we hit that dreaded 4 month regression. I read all about it, knew what to expect, watched it happen, but was not entirely sure what to do about it. I reached out to a company in the US that I had heard a few people talk about. After a quick and easy phone call I now was armed with some tips and tricks to help my sweet boy start sleeping better again, which he did. It wasn’t until a year later this company I had reached out to, contacted me. They were offering me the chance to apply to their academy where they train people to be Infant and Toddler Sleep Consultant. I actually had to laugh when this all started because my family always teased me that I should be a sleep consultant being that I was very strict with myself sons day to day routine/sleep schedule. But after letting it weigh on my heart for a while I decided what was the worst that could happen and applied. The application process was lengthy and after an extensive interview I was offered a position in the program! Since then I have found out I was the only Canadian accepted, which was so exciting! I began working with families and seeing the transformation from exhausted, stressed, very emotional parents to happy, hopeful and excited families and it made my heart grow. Chantal From day one Cohen struggled with sleep. Finally, after 14 months of struggling with frequent waking’s and night feeds (which by this point I knew he didn’t need), I decided we needed help. We all needed to sleep. So, I contacted Jori and asked for her help. My only regret is not calling her sooner. Jori was amazing to work with. She listened to our story and what we were struggling with and then worked with us to develop a sleep plan and schedule that we were comfortable with. She supported us the whole way though, checking in to see how our night went each morning and giving us pointers on how to approach any issues we had ran into. The very first night we saw an improvement, and within 3 days we were sleeping through the night. It was AMAZING! Seriously life changing. That was maybe the 5 th time in over a year I had slept through the night. I saw a change in Cohen’s mood as well. Since then Cohen has been sleeping consistently through the night and is able to self sooth through any night waking’s he does have (usually less than 2 minutes). I tried sleep training on my own and failed time after time. Jori was able to customize a sleep plan based on Cohen’s individual needs and having her to lean on gave me the confidence I needed to stick with the plan. We recently reached out to Jori again to help us through early morning waking’s. At 19 months Cohen started waking for the day at 4:30am. This was way too early for us, especially considering he had been sleeping until 6:30 prior to that. Again, Jori jumped in to help us develop a plan we could stick to, and although it took a bit longer for Cohen to get adjusted this time, within a week we saw an improvement. Now, 3 weeks later he is sleeping until 6:30 or 7:00am. Jori has a heart of gold and truly cares. I think that’s why she’s so successful in helping family’s get the sleep they need. She goes above and beyond to make sure you have the support you need and are comfortable with the process. I recommend Jori to everyone I know who is struggling with their baby’s sleep.
